Back in 1994, Professor Tim Lynch was training as a neurologist in the United States when his research team made a landmark finding of the first mutation of the tau gene that causes a form of dementia. It wasn’t until two years ago that the final mutation was uncovered and “the loop was closed.”
Professor Lynch spoke to the Irish Times Health explaining the pathway to this ground breaking research and its implications for understanding dementia.
Also you can watch the video of Professor Lynch explaining the research and “closing the tau loop” here.
